Approche communautaire et sociale auprès d’un public marginalisé : partage d’une pratique réflexive

Summary :

Background. Environmental factors and social conditions contribute to occupational injustices. These factors are similar to the social determinants of health, which describe social inequalities in health (HSI) and engage to the process of social exclusion. In occupational therapy, on social issues, community-based approaches are committed to reducing HSI and promoting fair and inclusive societies.
Intervention. It is with this objective in mind that the Association Embellimur (Switzerland) has developed and offers occupational therapy services for a marginalized public exposed to occupational injustices. The association seeks to develop the empowerment of people despite restrictive and limiting environment.
Key issues. This article presents the theoretical notions of the framework of occupational justice participating to the health promotion and supporting the development of social and community-based approach. These elements facilitate to understanding of Embellimur’s services, engaging a reflection on the challenges and issues of community-based occupational therapy in a social context.
Implications. Occupational justice suggest not to restrict the intervention to the person but to explore further the structure of society. The occupational therapists are identified as agents of change contributing to social change targeting to reduce HSI for more equity, inclusion and social justice.
