Summary :

Obesity is a very complex chronic disease resulting from many factors. The care pathway for people with obesity cannot be reduced only to prevention or treatment actions related to nutrition and exercise. An approach centered on the person’s occupations and life problems responds to an essential need in the accompaniment of people with obesity. In our Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, we welcome these people in groups over four weeks. In occupational therapy, we conduct an approach focused on life issues. In this study, we question the impact of this approach for people with obesity. Through a retrospective exploration of the MCRO quotations conducted for the groups from 2018 to 2020, we analyzed changes in performance and satisfaction in short and medium term. The results of the present study highlight, at the end of the group session, an improvement in performance for 94% of the selected participants and an increase in satisfaction for 98% of them. Six months after the end of the group session, we note that the benefits are maintained for the majority of the participants reassessed at this date. Our discussion focuses on various findings from our observations resulting from our analysis: a greater evolution of satisfaction than of performance, as well as an over-representation of personal care in the prioritized problems, leading us to question the occupational balance. Thus, the occupational approach is of clear benefit in the collaboration of people with obesity.
