Summary :
Difficulties encountered by service users, frequently observed by the Toulouse Positioning and Mobility Clinic (CPM), obstruct their progress towards wheelchair selection and postural fitting. These observations have oriented our interest towards educational training for patients and their significant others, as a solution to improve this aspect of the equipment choice process. This training consists essentially in information and educational sessions.
Objectives of information sessions, presented in a group format, are to improve knowledge about seated positioning, about mobility and positioning assistive devices, and to present the different stages of the clinical pathway.
Following this, individual educational sessions may be provided in response to the specific needs of each participant, with respect to mobility and posture.
Accompanying a person with reduced mobility in this way, along with their carers, towards a change of habits, thus contributes to the success of the positioning and mobility programme.
