Summary :

An increase in requests for child psychiatric care has been observed for unaccompanied minors. These adolescents, who arrived alone in France after a long traumatic trip, present psychological distress linked to their isolation and precarious living conditions. Consultation services are sometimes ill-equipped to cope with the multiplicity of their disorders and social constraints that must be taken into account in order to provide time for care.
À gap appears between their needs and the responses provided (waiting times, working without family, group therapy with adolescents with whom they do not identify). Caregivers’ representations of the adolescent process are also disrupted by unique references, calling for a cultural shift.
Applying the concepts of balance and occupational justice allows a more comprehensive analysis of their experience, considering the different significant dimensions of their life project. The feedback of a Medico-Psychological Centers’ experience presents an intervention focused on supporting the occupational transition through meetings. They focus on occupational identity, occupational balance, as well as the identification of occupational deprivation situations in order to prevent the risks of psychological collapse. In this practice, the occupational therapist is at the interface between health and social considerations and can thus support the articulation of interprofessional links around these young people.
