Summary :
Caregivers play a central role in providing care for people with disabilities or loss of autonomy. But it is often underestimated and even overlooked. This article explores the importance of their support and the need to fully integrate them into the care pathway. Led by different stakeholders, including two occupational therapists, the Kerpape Center develops various initiatives to support caregivers. These initiatives include tailored training courses, easier access to information, exchanges and awareness-raising spaces. In order to provide a comprehensive and consistent support, a systemic approach is favored. It takes into account the interactions between caregivers, patients and healthcare professionals. Despite progress, some challenges remain : isolation, lack of recognition and difficulties to access support services. This article highlights concrete actions taken in order to improve the integration of caregivers into the healthcare system by strengthening professional training and developing appropriate local initiatives. Valuing their role improves the quality of both caregivers and people they care for.
