Summary :
It’s important to discuss sexuality for disabled people during the rehabilitation process, whether disability is congenital or acquired. Indeed, sexuality is an occupation like any other activities, that can help to enhance quality of care and life. The Physical and Rehabilitation Médecine Centre of Kerpape created a multidisciplinary team to develop the project “Sexuality and Handicap”. That leads to implement practical measures in order to achieve different objectives: raising awareness among staff, individual or collective support, events, respect of intimacy and integration of patients into the dynamic process.
In the first place, we’ll describe the impact of deficiencies on sexuality and their repercussions on Intimate Emotional and Sexual Life (in French VIAS). This article outlines all the practical organisation and the dynamic of the multidisciplinary team to aim the health promotion and prevention, as well as the role of an occupational therapist within this team. This article presents studies cases to better illustrate actions of sexual health support in Kerpape Centre.
