Summary :
The Local Support Teams for Adaptative Equipment (EqLAAT), launched in 2021 in France by the National Solidarity Fund for Autonomy (CNSA), aim to improve the access to adaptative equipment for people with disabilities and elderly people. In the Hérault department, the Autonomy and Health Hub of the town of Lattes has led this experiment as an Adaptative Equipment Information and Advice Center (CICAT), offering a neutral, free and mobile public service throughout the department.
The EqLAATs work in tandem with existing systems. They stand out for their quick field work, enabling an immediate environmental adaptation that is validated by ecological assessments. These multidisciplinary teams bring together occupational therapists and social professionals in order to help users choose, try out, set up and use tools that promote independence and autonomy at home.
Working with families and healthcare professionals, the team provides comprehensive care, integrating the social, technical and functional dimensions of users’ needs. By continuously gathering information on needs at home, the EqLAATs demonstrate the relevance of occupational therapy in the lives of people who are losing their autonomy.
The inclusion of EqLAATs in the law of 8 April 2024 on “Healthy Aging” confirms their importance. Its widespread use is scheduled for 2025.
