Summary :
Climate change is a threat to human health. Responsible for 8% of greenhouse gas emissions, the French healthcare sector is contributing to the disruption of our ecosystem and, consequently, to the health that it is supposed to protect. Although there has been a consensus on the human origins of climate change for many years, the system is struggling to change. A plan focused on prevention, health promotion and fair care would help to reduce the sector’s greenhouse gases emissions. In addition, many environmental actions would also have a positive impact on health. Finally, keeping the population healthy would reduce the pressure on a struggling healthcare system and thus ensure greater resilience for the sector in facing future climate events. Awareness of these developments and issues can enable occupational therapists to play a role in prevention and health promotion, but also to support people in adapting their occupations in a changing environment. This opens up opportunities for the development of occupational therapy in primary, secondary and tertiary prevention.
