Développer notre leadership au service de la recherche en ergothérapie

Summary :

Occupational therapy research still faces challenges in strengthening the presence of occupational therapists in academic and scientific circles in France. Although research in rehabilitation sciences by paramedics is rare, significant advances have been made, notably with the introduction of the LMD (Licence-Master-Doctorat) system and the creation of specific sections within the Conseil National des Universités (CNU). These developments enable professionals to access academic posts. In 2020, the creation of the ERPHAN research unit was a turning point, for it gathered interdisciplinary researchers around themes related to rehabilitation, motor skills and occupational sciences. The unit’s track record is highly positive, with an increase in the number of researchers, scientific publications and international collaborations. Despite these successes, several challenges remain, including the long-term integration of occupational therapists into French universities, and the development of occupational science research. Strengthening the leadership of occupational therapists is essential to ensure the future of the discipline.
