Summary :
In psychiatry, in order to defend Occupational Therapy, often defined as the science of human occupation and known for promoting individual’s autonomy, as a profession in the heart of the rehabilitation system, it is indispensable to reflect on the recent studies about schizophrenia and it is necessary to consider the different conceptual models. The current understanding of the illness has lead to a common agreement defining this pathology as a neuro-developmental psychosis. New behavioural and cognitive therapies directed towards mental health rehabilitation are now also available and in use in France. These therapies have their origin in the psychological, biological, educational and behavioural approaches. The patient is fully involved in his treatment plan and as soon as the treatment starts a vocational project is set up. Very far from Pavlov’s experiences, these therapies enable a holistic approach, and require from the Multi Disciplinary Team a rigorous and scientific practice.
