Summary :

Within the occupational therapy education program, one course is dedicated to legislation, deontology and ethics allowing students to integrate juridical, philosophical and ethical knowledge. Besides, the training periods of internships bring them to observe, feel and perceive the ethical issues or questions that healthcare professionals must deal with or are faced with. This may be experienced when a diagnose is to be revealed, when supporting a person within palliative care, when a person needs help defining life goals or projects or in diverse situations that may occur during the rehabilitation process. These situations call for reasoning and thinking about the students’ understanding of care and relationships to others. How is that addressed when the students come back to school after the internship period?
This article aims to explain the process of ethical reflection that is suggested to students and their eventual contributions during the internship placement period. It tends to show this process as a demonstration of occupational therapy professional values by the students which is helpful for building professional identity.
