Summary :
The number of occupational therapy students in France has increased significantly over the last ten years. As a result, there is a nationwide need for additional placements. It is becoming increasingly difficult for occupational therapy schools to obtain a sufficient number of placements.
Within the framework of OT schools in France (SIFEF), a working group made up of 5 placement coordinators sought to find out the reasons and possible solutions.
It is essential to consult professionals to better understand the conditions and constraints associated with tutoring. What are occupational therapists’ practices, needs and expectations?
A national survey of occupational therapists, listed by the schools in occupational therapy, was carried out in 2022. The purpose of this article is to share and make visible the results of this survey of 1040 occupational therapists.
They testify about when they receive students, their motivations, the difficulties they encounter and their tutoring needs. Some solutions are emerging such as development of links with occupational therapy schools, tutoring training and receiving several students at the same placement period.
